Wanted to use mokume game in what I felt was an appropriate manner, as wood grain. Originally this was going to be a brooch, which would be located on the chest, hence the title and the detail of the heart. After later consideration this became a decorative box (possibly for jewelry) and I have been toying with the idea of the title "Jewelry Armoire," but then I don't know how to explain the heart. Either way, this is the most challenging piece I have ever made.
Materials: Sterling Silver and Copper

Chest by ~Silverartgirl. A tiny chest in sterling silver and copper using mokume gane, a mixed-metal laminate with layered patterns resembling a wood grain effect, and it's only 3 1/2" (9cm) tall!

Yes the feet were caste. And mokume game is hard to work with (especially when you make your own.) Any time metal is fused it lowers the soldering temperature which therefore limits the number or grades of solder you can go through and the number of joints you can do. Sadly it has a tendency of melting of bubbling.
The only mokume I've actually done anything with is soldered mokume (which I know isn't technically mokume, but the result is the same) - we didn't have the equipment for real mokume at my school at the time. I like it, tho, because you can do smaller batches

haha...thank you. This one was a real struggle to get done. I got so frustrated with it half way through that I set it down and didn't look at it for over a month. Thank goodness for deadlines.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
